For some it's the challenges of solving mysteries or puzzles, others are proud to be part of a growing company and see purpose in helping others reach their goals. Our colleagues value many things and each one has their unique favourite. And not to forget the people that are fun to be around and create this fantastic community!
This edition's answers highlight what motivates our colleagues every day. And isn't it great to see these sparks in their eyes when they talk about scientific curiosity, problem-solving and team spirit?
Meet:
... and listen to what they enjoy most!
I remember when I applied here, the headline of my application letter was, I'm a biotechnologist who likes to work with engineers, so I like to see into other disciplines. And then I came here, and what I found was people that said, we like to do everything in-house. And I learned programming, I learned 3D design stuff, and prototyping, and they were also biotechnologists.
And I thought, that's pretty cool, and I saw what they had built up here, and they really do everything in-house that they can. And to keep the knowledge here, they just teach themselves stuff, and I also wanted to do that, and understand how everything comes together.
It depends, when you just look at the job part, it's this puzzling, this solving, let's call it mysteries.I'm feeling kind of a detective quite often, when a customer approaches me with an issue, a question, needs help in interpreting the data, then it's really like solving a puzzle.
I need to understand, what are they doing, why are they doing this. I need to understand their bioprocess. I need to obviously know about our products, how they work, what are their limits. And then getting information more and more from the customer, putting this together with the knowledge that we have internally, and then solving the puzzle to understand: You see this data because of that, and if you want to see the data in this way, you have to change this or that, and that solving is a lot of fun.
And besides that, the company itself is quite cool, I like all the people here. It's really great to get together with them, to meet them, to talk to them about, well, work stuff, but also every other topic that comes up. It's a nice environment to be in.
I truly enjoy working with such a motivated, talented team. And I think what really makes me happy is seeing that customers can benefit from the devices that we produce as a team, that they make their lives easier, that they do not maybe need to sample this much anymore, but they spend less hands-on time for those kind of tasks, and can really more focus on bioprocessing, on analyzing the data, and that we can help there.
To be honest, to work together with the team, that's a favorite part. To see every day this crazy crowd during the lunch break, is much fun, to be honest.
And another thing which is also a pleasure for me is to see or to work or to be part of a small startup company, and to see every day the developing from a startup or scale-up company to a significant company through our own hands at work. And that makes me very proud, to be honest.
I would say the favorite part about working at sbi is the growth. Because I've seen the first days of this company, where we were working and also eating lunch at the same table. So, there was a day when I remember, I built a 3D printer up on the lunch table, and then I had to clean up everything for half an hour just because we wanted to eat lunch on the same table, we didn't have a bigger room.
And now that we have six rooms in the same building, it feels very enjoyable to work here because now we are way more organized, we are selling way more products than we had in the first years. And this growth is what I would say inspires me to work here every day.
Many different roles and perspectives contribute to how we work every day.
In this interview series, we give you a glimpse behind the scenes and the opportunity to get to know some of the people who help build sbi. We sat down with colleagues from different departments across the company and asked them a few simple questions about their work, their routines, and what they enjoy most about their roles.
What we got are their short, honest answers and real perspectives. Each blog post focuses on one question (accompanied by video) to give you that look behind the scenes of sbi.
